Alexis is no longer alone! A newborn orphan pup, separated from its mother likely due to the recent severe weather, arrived MOm’s Rehabilitation Center. Little Afroditi was spotted the day before yesterday on the hard-to-reach Kalami beach in Kythira by Mr. Vrettos Sklavos and the Outdoor Activities Greece team while descending the canyon. They immediately contacted MOm's Rescue Team, Animal Aid Kythira, and the Coast Guard.

Following an initial assessment of the animal's condition by MOm’s specialists, its immediate transfer was deemed necessary: first to Dr. Katerina Stathatou's veterinary clinic in Livadi for first aid, then the following afternoon via Seajets ferry to Piraeus, and from there to MOm's Rehabilitation Center hosted at the Attica Zoological Park in Spata. Thus, the seal—lucky, in the end, despite its misfortune—which the climbers, along with members of Animal Aid Kythira, safely transported in a special climbing bag from a spot inaccessible by sea due to rough waters, arrived in Athens.

Clearly malnourished and weakened, the newborn seal—around one week old and weighing just 15 kg—underwent initial blood, biochemical, and radiological tests at the Athens Veterinary Hospital. So far, findings show no serious underlying pathological condition beyond severe starvation and dehydration, which led to general body weakness.

Her health status is being closely monitored around the clock, and our priority is the gradual recovery of her health and physical condition, with the ultimate goal of returning her to her natural habitat.

We would like to thank Mr. Vrettos Sklavos, the Outdoor Activities Greece team, and Animal Aid Kythira for mobilizing and rescuing the little pup, veterinarian Dr. Katerina Stathatou for providing first aid and shelter, the Drakakis Tours agency and the crew of Seajets' Aqua Jewel for transporting the pup, as well as the Kythira Port Authority.
